A well-designed sales funnel allows you to capture and nurture prospects as they
move through different stages of engagement. It’s an approach that works, proven
by countless success stories of small businesses and even large corporations
growing dramatically with a well-executed sales funnel.
At the top of a sales funnel, you want to create content that will draw people in and
capture their attention. This might include an informative infographic or a video with
a catchy title that makes it clear what your business is all about. It may also be a
landing page that shares an irresistible offer, such as a free trial or discount code.
Once a person has become aware of your brand and products or services, they’re
ready to consider what you’ve got to offer in more depth. They may be comparing
you to competitors or doing research on the features and benefits of your products
or services. At this stage, you can swoop in with high-value content that helps them
make the right decision and shows you’re an expert in your field.
If you’re an online retailer, you might create a comparison chart for your product or
service against that of your competitor, and you could also provide an easy-to-use
calculator that lets them see the total cost of their purchase. You might also include
testimonials or success stories from other customers to help them feel confident in
your company.
The interest stage is when the prospect starts to feel like they’re considering a
purchase. If you have done a good job at the previous two steps, they will be
impressed by your ability to help them make an informed decision. At this point, you
might have them sign up for a newsletter and subscribe to your social media
accounts so they can keep receiving valuable information about your business.
Once a prospect is at the consideration stage, they’re ready to act. They’re
evaluating your pricing and your competitors’ pricing, as well as their own budget
and their needs. You can nudge them toward taking the plunge by offering an
irresistible deal, such as free shipping when their competitors charge for it or a
bonus item with every order.
By monitoring the progress of your leads through each step in your sales funnel,
you’ll be able to identify areas that need improvement. You can then focus your
efforts on promoting the best deals to the right people at the right time. A strong
sales funnel will help you to acquire profitable customers at scale, which will give
your business the boost it needs to grow and thrive.
